Tech Prep identifies high school courses comparable to MiraCosta College courses and creates articulation agreements between them. These agreements allow students at their high schools that receive a B or better in a Tech Prep course and on the final to earn college credit at MiraCosta without paying any tuition or fees. Students complete a MiraCosta College application while in their high school class (necessary for receiving their college credit). Credit will be applied to students' MiraCosta College transcript one semester after the high school course has been completed.
Earning Tech Preparation credits helps save money. College is expensive. The free Tech Prep college credits you earn apply toward your high school diploma and toward certificates and degrees at MiraCosta College. Credits may be transferable to California State Universities, too. Save time. Because you can earn several college credits by taking Tech Prep courses, you can begin completing certificate or degree requirements before you even set foot on MiraCosta College's campuses. Earning college credits before you get to college often means you don't have to take courses called prerequisites.
If you don't plan on attending MiraCosta Community College, your Tech Preparation credit may be transferable – saving you even more money and time. If you plan to work full-time you can gain an edge over other high school graduates by impressing your employer with the fact that you earned college credit before you earned your high school diploma. If you change your plans, the Tech Prep credit will be there – like money in the bank.
