This course is designed to inform students of the nature of economics and contemporary economic issues. The course focuses on the workings of the American market system and its goals, the use of tools of analysis, economic decision-making, the role of labor and management, the problems of scarcity, and the philosophy and practice of other economic systems.

The purpose of an AP course in microeconomics is to give students a thorough
understanding of the principles of economics that apply to the functions of individual
decision makers, both consumers and producers, within the economic system. It places primary
emphasis on the nature and functions of product markets, and includes the study of factor
markets and of the role of government in promoting greater efficiency and equity in the economy. This course is designed to prepare the student to take the Advanced Placement Exam in May, which can result in college credit being earned. See www.collegeboard.com for further explanation.
