OVERVIEW OF ENGLISH EDUCATION IN SDUHSD
SDUHSD offers a wide range of ELA courses to students in grades 7-12. Students may take as many classes as their schedule will allow, and prerequisites and department recommendations should be followed.
Middle School
All students in grades 7 & 8 must take a grade-level English course each year and may take additional electives or support classes.
High School
All students in grades 9-12 must take a grade-level English course each year as a requirement to earn a high school diploma from SDUHSD. To apply to most four-year colleges, students must earn a C grade or higher in a minimum of one year of grade-level English each year in high school.
Additional English electives or support classes count toward fulfilling the elective credits graduation requirement. All students in grades 9-12 may take elective courses offered by their school and should work directly with the school counselor.
