Carmel Valley Middle School shall include the area bounded by land east of Interstate 5 extending to the district's eastern most boundary; and land south of the Carmel Valley Planning Area boundary (generally following Gonzales Canyon) extending to the district's southern most boundary for grades 7-8.

It is the intent of the Board of Trustees to provide equal educational opportunities for all students of the district. In order to avoid duplication of certain costly facilities, some programs will be offered on a single campus and opportunities will be provided for all qualified district students to attend under specified conditions.

The administration is authorized to establish procedures that set forth the conditions under which students may attend classes at a district campus located outside of their assigned attendance boundaries.

ATTENDANCE BOUNDARIES

All students shall attend the appropriate District school located within the attendance area of their permanent residence unless specifically excepted.

Individual Transfer/Full-Time

Student transfers to a school outside of the area of residence must receive prior approval from parents and from the Executive Director of Pupil Services. Approval of transfers will be based on such considerations as:

Senior Student - Those pupils who are in the highest grade of a junior or senior high school may be permitted to graduate in the school which they have attended just prior to their move to a different attendance area.

Personal and Social Adjustment - These are to be on a trial basis for social or academic adjustments only. These cases must have verification by the building principal in the attendance area of desired attendance.

Specialized Courses or Training - Availability of specialized courses or training in school outside of the attendance area of residence.

Contemplated Change of Residence - Specific and written evidence must be given that a home in another attendance area is being obtained. Such permits should not be for longer than three months.

To Complete the Balance of the School Year - Students may be permitted to complete the balance of the school year when place of residence is changed in the midst of the school year.

Individual Transfer/Part-Time

Due to such factors as facility considerations, some programs may be limited to a single campus in the district. Students may supplement their classes on the campus of residence by enrolling in a limited number of offerings on another district site. Part-time enrollment on another district site requires administrative approval in advance.
